Confirmed · Karak, Jordan · 2026-10-23 11:55 UTC

Gunmen opened fire inside a church in Karak governorate, southern Jordan, during a funeral gathering, according to Jordanian Public Security and state television, and the attackers reportedly fled while suspects are still being pursued. Jordanian government and Interior Ministry statements give different totals of dead and wounded, while Al Jazeera, Haaretz, Middle East Eye and the Jerusalem Post report at least seven killed. Jordanian government statements and Rerum Novarum say ISIS claimed the attack, and Middle East Spectator reports authorities suspect ISIS members.

Confirmed: 5 independent sources.

Sources disagree on:

The Jordanian government spokesperson and the Jordanian Interior Ministry give different death and wounded totals for the Karak church attack, and Tasnim News quotes an official source giving a combined total of killed and injured that matches neither.

Details by origin

Each detail, with the independent origins that reported it. An origin is the outlet or channel where a claim first appeared; reposts count once. A row counts no more independent origins than the event does above; where it lists more, it says so. This counts reports: it is not a measure of accuracy, and it does not change the event's status. "Reports differ" means two origins gave values that cannot both be true; it is about that detail, not about whether the incident happened.
