Iraq reportedly orders closure of Al-Shaib crossing with Iran

Single source · Al-Shaib border crossing, Iraq (approximate) · 2026-10-20 21:47 UTC

Unconfirmed reports say Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi ordered closure of the Al-Shaib border crossing with Iran from Wednesday until further notice, with other crossings to close gradually. Rerum Novarum Intel describes it as the main southern land crossing, and 8AM Media headlines it as an indefinite closure. Reasons differ: Rerum Novarum Intel cites smuggling of prohibited materials in one post and a crackdown on Iranian-aligned militias in another. No official Iraqi confirmation has been found.
