Iranian military statements say oil tankers struck naval mines and caught fire in and near the Strait of Hormuz between 4 and 5 November. The IRGC said four tankers were destroyed in a prohibited passage south of the strait, while the Iranian Navy and Army described one tanker hitting a mine east of the strait at dawn on 5 November, and other statements gave three or five vessels. The statements say the tankers had switched off their identification and navigation systems, and no independent source has confirmed the incidents or disputed that they occurred.
