About
How this is measured
A notice in force that closes or restricts the whole Kuwait airspace is the only thing this page calls a closure or a restriction, and it names the notice. Otherwise it counts the aircraft that entered in the last hour (heard by volunteer ADS-B receivers) and compares them with the same hour on earlier days. Where too few aircraft are heard to judge, it says it cannot be told. Methodology.
What it cannot tell you
ADS-B shows the aircraft that carry a transponder and that volunteer receivers hear, mostly civil airliners at cruising height; it does not show military flights that switch it off, and over some countries (Iran, Iraq, Yemen, Sudan, and Lebanon at night) the receivers hear too few aircraft to tell a closed airspace from a quiet one.
Exact rules
Notices (NOTAMs) are read from the SANS AIM bulletins; aircraft come from adsb.lol, adsb.fi and OpenSky. The usual is the median, and the lowest to highest, of the same hour on up to 13 earlier days.
A count is judged only where the usual is 10 an hour or more and the receivers cover the airspace. A measured fall is at most 50% of the usual, below every earlier day, unlikely by chance, and seen three checks in a row; a sample older than 30 minutes is "no current count".
A notice announces a restriction; it does not say an attack happened, and an airspace can be restricted for flights of some kinds only. A fall in traffic can be a closure, an airline decision, a night lull or lost reception: the page does not say which.
Aircraft are counted every 5 minutes; the notices are read from the SANS bulletins about hourly. The page is rebuilt from the stored counts at most every few minutes.
