How to read this page

  • ✓ Called D Called: civicAPI's decision desk has called the race. sitmap.live calls nothing.
  • R leading Leading: most votes counted so far, not called. The line under it gives the lead in points.
  • Unopposed Unopposed: one candidate on the ballot. Counted toward control, never a call.
  • Awaiting Awaiting: no votes counted yet.
  • Hero numbers are seats secured: not up this year + called + unopposed. They are not tonight's result until the count is in.
  • Map tint and the left edge of an awaiting row show the party that holds the seat now. There is no incumbent flag: that is the seat, not the person running.
  • Independents who vote with the Democrats (2 in the Senate) are counted with them. 51 seats control the Senate; at 50-50 the Vice President (a Republican) breaks the tie, so 50 is enough for Republicans.

Questions about the 2026 midterm results

When do polls close in the 2026 US midterm elections?

Tuesday, November 3, 2026 is election day. Polls close state by state, from 6 pm ET, the first in parts of Indiana and Kentucky, to 1 am ET in Alaska. The closing time of each state is on this page.

Who controls the Senate and the House after the 2026 midterms?

Before this vote the parties held: Senate D 47 · R 53; House D 215 · R 220. A party needs 51 of the 100 Senate seats (or 50 with the vice president's tie-breaking vote) and 218 of the 435 House seats for a majority. The control bars at the top of this page show how many seats each party has secured or leads, as races are called.

When will the 2026 midterm results be known?

Counting starts as each state's polls close, so results arrive through election night. A race is shown as called only when civicAPI calls it; close races can take hours or days, and some states count mail ballots for days. This page is read about every minute while the count runs and says when it was last read.

Where do these results and race calls come from?

Results come from civicAPI, which collects them from state election officials. Every race call is civicAPI's decision desk's; sitmap.live calls no race. Each race links to its state's own results, which are the count of record.

Is sitmap.live's election page official?

No. It is an unofficial copy built from public data, covering 35 Senate seats, 435 House seats, 36 governorships. Every race call comes from civicAPI, which collects results from state election offices. sitmap.live calls no race, and each state's own results are the count of record, linked on every race.
